Cello and Latvians
Already for some time Ēriks Kiršfelds, who had performed for several years as the leading cellist of Kremerata Baltica, has rooted in Liepāja, he is the concert master of the cello group of Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. He has always actively participated in various instrumental ensembles. In this chamber music programme Ēriks, with his instrument, will delve in the emotionally and stylistically multiform sound patterns of Latvian composers.
Several composers have made considerable contribution to the solo cello repertoire in Latvian music during the last two decades: Linda Leimane and Ēriks Ešenvalds have brought the warm timbre of cello closer to that of bass guitar, Maija Einfelde has found radiant, joyful flageolets in her latest composition for cello and the piano, whereas Rolands Kronlaks’ vision for cello will be presented to the audience for the first time in this concert. Alongside the new works the programme will include also opuses written for cello by Pēteris Vasks and Tālivaldis Ķeniņš, which can already called as classical pieces.
The concert will be supplemented by a visual story, inspired by music and worked out by the director Zane Kreicberga, while the pianist Herta Hansena, laureate of the Great Music Award for excellent work in an ensemble, will play the piano part.
