SKRIDE QUARTET. DVORAK AND ENESCU

Alongside her fantastic solo career, the outstanding Latvian violinist Baiba Skride is just as serious about work in chamber music. The cohesive teamwork and enthusiastically natural way of bringing musical imagery to life are qualities of her passion project Skride Quartet that are appreciated by critics around the world. This time, the quartet returns to Latvian audiences with two outstanding chamber music masters’ lesser known pieces. In his Piano Quartet No. 2, Antonín Dvořák takes a step back from the upbeat expression of Czech folk music and contemplates the German Romantic views of music. Similarly, in the Romanian composer George Enescu’s Piano Quartet No. 1, one hears not the sparks of the spirit of Romanian rhapsodies, but a French charm. The legendary 20th century cellist Pablo Casal once called Enescu "the greatest musical phenomenon since Mozart '', and this comparison is no coincidence - the stylistic essence of Mozart, the author of the first-ever piano quartet echoes in Enescu’s scores as well. To reveal them, Baiba Skride will be joined by her sister and long-time performance partner, pianist Lauma Skride, the French violist Lise Berthaud, and the Dutch cellist Harriet Krijgh.
